Job Summary:

The Office of Medical Education has an opening for a 0.1 FTE salary supported position, with benefits, as a Medical Sciences Assistant Content Director - Pharmacology. The Content Director at the University of Colorado School of Medicine plays a pivotal role in shaping medical education by developing and overseeing curricula that ensure students acquire the core knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to become competent physicians. This role involves administering and enhancing educational programs, ensuring alignment with learning objectives, assessing student performance, and maintaining compliance with accreditation standards. The Content Director collaborates with faculty, recruits, and supports educators, and fosters continuous quality improvement through curriculum reviews and innovative teaching strategies

This position would assist the pharmacology content director in the overall content director job responsibilities as outlined below; the exact division of responsibilities between the two are open to discussion and evolution.

Key Responsibilities:

Administration:
  • Assists course and content managers with scheduling, assessments, organization, and content execution to ensure high-quality, up-to-date orientation and materials are accessible and aligned with educational objectives.
  • Corresponds promptly with students, administrative staff, and faculty to serve as a resource and guide.

Curriculum Execution & Program Innovation:
  • Leads the development and implementation of the curriculum across all program phases by addressing curriculum needs, LCME requirements, and directives established by the curriculum committee.
  • Contributes to maintaining and sustaining a comprehensive curriculum map that includes goals, objectives, competencies, and assessments to ensure all faculty and students understand and adhere to it.

Curriculum Review, Continuous Quality Improvement, & Accreditation:
  • Evaluates curriculum effectiveness in achieving learning outcomes in partnership with the Office of Assessment, Evaluation, and Outcomes to create reports for relevant committees and leadership.
  • Ensures reports follow LCME standards and other reporting requirements.
  • Continuously analyzes coverage of pharmacology treatment for special populations, such as children and pregnant patients, to ensure adequate coverage.

Student Assessment & Grading:
  • Oversees formative and summative assessments to set clear expectations for student performance.

Faculty Recruitment, Support & Development:
  • Develops and recruits faculty to create a professional learning environment that delivers educational content and addresses development needs for the success of students and faculty.
  • Sets clear deadlines for support staff while considering their other competing responsibilities.

Collaborative Meeting Attendance & Participation:
  • Works with other content directors to standardize curriculum components and ensure compliance.
  • Attends and participates in curriculum committee meetings and retreats to contribute to policy development.

Supervision Received: The position will report to the Chair, Medical Sciences Content Directors and have a dotted line reporting to the Assistant Dean, Pre-Clerkship Curriculum.

Supervision Exercised: None.

Work Location:

Hybrid - this role is eligible for a hybrid schedule as needed for teaching and in-person meetings.

  • Applicants must have an MD, DO, PhD, PharmD, or other terminal degree.

Senior Instructor:
  • Candidates must be able to obtain a faculty appointment (Senior Instructor) at the University of Colorado School of Medicine
  • Applicants must have an MD, DO, PhD, PharmD, or other terminal degree.

Assistant Professor:
  • Candidates must be able to obtain a faculty appointment (Assistant Professor) at the University of Colorado School of Medicine
  • Applicants must have an MD, DO, PhD, PharmD, or other terminal degree.

Associate Professor:
  • Candidates must be able to obtain a faculty appointment (Associate Professor) at the University of Colorado School of Medicine

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Preferred Start date of January 1, 2025
  • One or more years of teaching experience to undergraduate or graduate medical education learners.
  • Working experience and knowledge of medical education at the University of Colorado School of Medicine

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and value working within a team.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to cultivate relationships with both university and community physicians and be available to answer questions and problem solve as needed.
  • Ability to maintain sustainable relationships with other faculty in the school of medicine and work to ensure the Pre-clerkship Curriculum is well represented within the school.
  • Skilled at and enjoy working with students, helping them with any preceptor issues, providing advice on how to troubleshoot/resolve issues, and assisting students to ensure their success.
